    Flavio Esposito

    Summary: Flavio Esposito is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and a Fellow of the Research Institute at Saint Louis University. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Boston University, USA, and a MS in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Florence, Italy. His research interests are Cyber-Physical Systems, in general, and Computer Networks, Edge Computing, and Applied Artificial Intelligence, in particular.

    Nadia Shakoor

    Role: PI (Donald Danforth Plant Science Center)

    Summary: Dr. Shakoor is an expert in crop genetics and plant phenotyping and is engaged in several initiatives to develop cyber-physical platforms for remote sensing and the use of sensor networks and digital devices for in-field data capture. Sensor platforms and hardware from her previously-funded projects will be leveraged as testbeds for the current project’s software and infrastructure deliverables. She has an established and extensive network of collaborators in the farming community and will work closely with Drs. Esposito and Sagan in the community engagement and crop science validation activities of the proposed project. She will also co-advise one of the postdocs with co-PI Sagan on the crop science activities.

    Vasit Sagan

    Role: co-PI, Professor (Saint Louis University)

    Summary: Dr. Vasit Sagan is responsible for developing remote sensing applications for the project. He establishes field experimental sites, lead ground truth data collection on plant disease and water stress, and develop computer vision, generative AI, ML algorithms, and software pipelines to detect plant disease and water stress.

    Summary: Reza Tourani (GSM’12, M’18) is an assistant professor with the Computer Science department at Saint Louis University since 2018. He received his PhD in Computer Science from New Mexico State University in 2018. His research interests are the broader areas of security and privacy, with a focus on building secure by design protocols and resilient systems, ranging from cyber-physical system such as Internet Things to edge computing with a particular emphasis on distributed access control, trusted and verifiable computing.

    Summary: Dr. Kate Holdener is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science. Before joining SLU, Dr. Holdener completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2008. She subsequently worked in industry for 10 years, at Exegy, Inc. in various roles such as software engineer, senior API engineering, and product manager. Her research interests focus on the automation of software engineering processes, software development methodologies, and on the application of evolutionary algorithms to software engineering.
